GÄRRTEN Leather items, end products of ritualised craftsmanship, deserve to be treated with care. This guide will provide you with few tips to ensure your investment will last for years to come. However, how you want your leather item to look also comes down to taste. Some want a clean, polished look for their bag or wallet, while others are okay with blemishes, scratches and natural wear and tear.
Regularly remove dirt build-up by wiping down with a cleaner made specifically for the leather in question. This is the most fool proof way to keep any leather product from prematurely aging, even if you do nothing else.Wipe the hardware with a soft dry cloth once a week. If caught up in rain, no worries. Let water spills dry naturally. High-heat measures like using a hairdryer will only cause the skin to crinkle beyond salvage.
Leather conditioner is like a moisturizer for your leather product. Without it, the leather will dry out over time. Always Spot-Test first.
When applying any polish or conditioner, always test a small area first and wait till it is dry. This will help in avoiding any unwanted color changes. If a certain brand/color goes well the first time, then feel free to use repeatedly without testing again. Condition leather every 3-6 months, sometimes more depending on the environment and season.
For dry climate: increase the frequency.Apply conditioner on a soft cloth and rub gently all over the leather.
Place your leather bag in its original dustbag, and then store in its original box, along with silica gel packets to avoid dampness.
Leather needs some ventilation to prevent mildew and rot. Air can naturally pass through leather, leaving moisture to evaporate naturally. Use specially designed GÄRRTEN dust bags when storing.
To condition, nourish and enhance the leather of our products, we recommend using GÄRRTEN leather Crème .
It is a water-based crème that is neutral in color, solvent-free and contains prestigious waxes. Its best for all smooth leathers except suede, nubuck & patent leather.
NOTE: We strongly advise not to use any cleaning products containing solvents or leather creams/polishes that are coloured.
